Franiel was the first born of the Purkii chiefs, Sarh and Renn Nierh, and she was raised as a true Avukii: a herder of reindeer and brave hunter of the fierce beasts that roam the arctic Autavuk. One particular bad winter, she led some hunters to the southern forests to gather more food… the forest happened to be part of the kingdom of Alardol, and the Heir Apparent, Prince Séldur, was during a routine inspection of the border-guard. The two parties met by accident, and the prince was smitten by the short, dark-haired huntress. He spent four months in the frozen arctic with the Purkii tribe before he proposed. Séldur and Franiel were married.

The young couple took with them many gifts from the generous Avukii including a pack of the giant canines. However, their reception at the Alardolian court was less than kind. The old king was furious at his son’s “disappearance” and “whimsical desire” to marry a foreign “commoner” and ordered Séldur to revoke the marriage. Séldur, in return, threatened to denounce his heritage, his right to the throne, and live among Franiel’s people, and as the only child of the king, the king reluctantly accepted the marriage rather than risk losing his son forever. Franiel’s presence, intelligence, and kind personality soon won over almost all of the “old courtiers” and even the old king himself.

Three years after their marriage, Franiel gave birth to identical twin sons: Sársoril and Elvyldur.

A kind-hearted young woman chosen to be Prince Eäréwen Franiel’s personal handmaiden and to assist the princess with caring for the royal twins. Megnarn is completely loyal to Franiel and would do anything the princess asks her.

Sársoril and Elvyldur, Princes of Alardol

Identical twin sons of Prince Séldur and Princess Eäréwen Franiel. They inherited their father’s brilliant red hair but their mother’s brown eyes, giving them a striking appearance. The firstborn, Sársoril, is quieter and passive while the younger, Elvyldur, is lively and loves attention.

The beloved red-haired prince of Alardol and heir apparent, Séldur was an only child. Charming, intelligent, and free-spirited, he had his pick of eligible princesses and noblewomen, yet for many years he did not seem interested in marriage. He was more focused on experiencing first-hand the various duties of ruling a large, prosperous kingdom. On a routine inspection of the border guard, he and his men surprised a party of northerns who had trespassed into the Alardolian forests in search of food. He was intrigued by the leader of the group, a small dark-haired woman. Months later, he married her.

At his father’s unexpected death of a heart attack, Séldur was to ascend the throne. The official coronation ceremony was less than a week away when he himself was attacked and murdered in his private study.
