This page took a very, very long time despite being somewhat simplistic.  The reason?  I had not given any thought to Tadlie’s appearance… no thoughts, no concept art, and, in fact, no name.  (I referred to him as “red-haired blacksmith” in the Script.)  So I was drawing somewhat blind, designing him as I went.  I am happy with how he turned out, though.

I am excited about the next set of pages… though the task of drawing them is slightly daunting. I am not certain my meager skills will be able to capture what I see in my mind’s eye.

This page took a very long time! I wanted to capture the feel of a medieval-esque city, so I used various photographs for references and worked very hard on the details. I was tired and very sore after I finished this page… but it was worth it, me thinks. (^_~)

No dialogue again today, but tomorrow we will meet a new character!

It is a lot of fun being able to share with people that I am working on the Prologue of a “graphic novel”. =)

I hope you are enjoying Two Worlds Apart !  Wondering how this graphic novel is being done?  Wonder no more.

An average, it takes me between two and three hours to complete a single page, depending upon how detailed the panels are.  I always start with a detailed rough draft of the page on regular notebook paper.  Then I sketch the main page on standard printer paper.  Afterwards, I ink and shade it.  Voila!

Now we witness Franiel’s survival instincts and training as an Avukii hunter.  In the still of the night, she slinks through the castle, avoiding the night patrol, until she reaches a drainage tunnel.  Mwahahaha!!  *cough*  What can I say?  I like Franiel, and she rocks. =)

Seriously, I was excited about the change of scene, but this page literally took hours to work out.  I was not able to do the panel that I really wanted, but the page still turned out nicely.

Another full page! I worked extremely hard on this one for nearly three hours to get it just right. I ended up having to tweak a few lines slightly in Paintshop Pro 7. Unfortunately, Séldur’s head and face did not turn out correctly. (His face seems just a little bit too big. *sigh*) Oh, well. I tried. =(

This is an enlarged version of the portrait over the fireplace that we shall a glimpse of on Page 1 and Page 11, and it is the first time we actually see Prince Séldur’s face. The portrait was painted by one of the Alardolian Masters, a gift commissioned by Séldur’s father, the King, for their wedding (three years ago).

Franiel would have a difficult time trying to vanish in the middle of the night in a fancy royal gown. She needed some less conspicuous clothing. I had fun drawing the dresses in her wardrobe. Later on, you will see Franiel in the coolest outfit… if I do say so myself! =)

Granted, I love her original dress, but I was getting just a little bit tired of drawing it, and it is no longer practical for the progression of the story.

And I tried something new by doing the sequence on the bottom-half of the page. It was fun, and I used quite a few reference photos from Google Image Search.

On an interesting note, it has taken 10 pages of the comic to complete just the first page of the script for the Prologue.

I tried something a little different with this page, because I wanted to show a panorama of the room.  And, yes, I already know that the injured preeyat is not lying on the floor where he should be… I had a difficult time drawing him and gave up.  Just imagine that he crawled out of the picture to rest and lick his wounds.

Panel 2:  < Aru, Autavuk. > Literally translates: “You go, Autavuk.”  Basically, Franiel was giving the preeyat a command to return to Autavuk, the Land of Ice… her native homeland.  Preeyatii are so loyal to their masters that they will obey even commands that seem impossible.
